Are You Out of Alignment or Just Out of Your Comfort Zone?

career health/wellness relationships transformation Aug 20, 2025

When I worked in the corporate world, I knew something wasn’t right. On the outside, I had the job, the paycheque, and the structure that was supposed to equal success. But inside, it felt like wearing shoes that were at least a size too small—constricting and uncomfortable. Even when I left corporate and started building a business, I created something that almost looked like I was still an employee. Same rules, same need to “perform” instead of thrive. I had traded one cage for another. That was being out of alignment.

The real shift came when I gave myself permission to pivot. Instead of forcing myself into a mold, I leaned into what lit me up—helping people and businesses transform, following multiple passions, and building a brand that evolves as I evolve. That meant stepping into the unknown, showing up online even when I felt awkward, and saying yes to opportunities that scared me. That’s not misalignment—that’s being out of my comfort zone. And guess what? Growth always lives outside the comfort zone.

So how do you know which one you’re experiencing? Here’s the difference: when you’re out of alignment, you feel drained, resentful, or stuck no matter how hard you push. It’s like forcing yourself down a road that your soul has no interest in traveling. But when you’re out of your comfort zone, it feels stretching, scary, and maybe even clumsy—yet beneath the nerves is a spark of excitement. That spark is your compass toward expansion.

Here’s a quick quiz to help you figure out where you are:

Are You Out of Alignment or Out of Your Comfort Zone?

  1. Do I feel energized (even if nervous) when I think about this, or do I feel heavy and depleted?

Energized = Comfort Zone

Depleted = Alignment issue

  1.  Am I avoiding this because it’s scary, or because it feels meaningless?

Scary = Comfort Zone

Meaningless = Alignment issue

  1.  Does this connect with my bigger vision, or is it leading me away from it?

Connects = Comfort Zone

Leads away = Alignment issue

  1.  After doing it, do I feel proud (even if exhausted), or do I feel resentful and empty?

Proud = Comfort Zone

Resentful = Alignment issue

Your success step: If you’re out of alignment—pivot, refine, or let go. If you’re out of your comfort zone—lean in, because that’s where your next level lives.
