Be the Light… Not the Judgy Comment Section

gratitude health/wellness relationships Jul 21, 2025

Recently when I scroll through the internet, I feel like I have been thrown back to a global high school mean girl drama. But instead of some tears between a few friends that we can talk through, it’s opinions, judgment, and digital eye-rolls from some to potentially millions.

Welcome to the modern era: Where someone’s breakfast smoothie can spark a political debate, and a dance video can ignite a worldwide opinion war.

Let’s be honest—there's a lot of heaviness in our world right now. And not the good kind of heavy, like the feeling after your third turkey dinner. We’re talking the heavy of judgment, shame, comparison, and digital “gotcha” moments. It’s like the whole world is playing referee, but no one brought a whistle, just blasting, cancels and memes.

At Lifeswerve, we’re flipping the switch. Because what if—just maybe—instead of being the 12th critic in the comment section, we became the first spark of light?

Here's a radical idea:

Let’s shine our light instead of dimming someone else’s.

Let’s remember that everyone—yes, even that guy ranting about oat milk conspiracies—is just a human trying to figure it all out. We’ve all had weird days. We’ve all worn a questionable outfit. We’ve all made decisions we later regretted (looking at you, 2003 frosted tips).

But guess what? That’s being human. That’s what connects us. Not perfection, but the big, beautiful messiness of it all. We’re not here to police each other into “getting it right”—we’re here to support each other while we figure out what “right” even means. Start with being the reason someone feels good – including yourself!

So, what can you do this week to be a little lighter in someone’s world?

  • Send a random “You got this” text to someone who wouldn’t expect it. (Even better if it’s to yourself in the mirror first.)
  • Leave a kind comment on someone’s post instead of scrolling by. Bonus points if it’s weirdly specific. ("Your cat looks like she just solved a mystery. I love that for her.")
  • Resist the urge to be snarky. If someone online says something you disagree with, try saying nothing. It’s wild, but it works. Feels like freedom.

The truth is…

The world doesn’t need more critics. It needs more connectors. More people willing to shine a flashlight in the dark, rather than complain there’s no sun.

Now go out there, shine your weird, warm, beautiful light—and if you see someone struggling in the shadows, don’t shame them. Hand them your flashlight.
