False Spring and Other Unsuspecting Setbacks
Mar 09, 2026Life is a lot like late winter. You’re deep in it — boots by the door, salt stains on everything you own, emotionally attached to tea. And then one day, out of nowhere, the sun heats up. The snow starts melting. You hear birds. You crack a window. You think, this is it. I’ve made it. I am a new woman. You feel lighter. Hopeful. Productive. You consider putting your winter coat away because you are clearly entering your renewed and energertic spring era.
And then — WHAM. Snowstorm.
Not a cute dusting. A full “why do I live here?” situation. Suddenly you’re digging your car out again, shovelling the driveway, and questioning your life choices. You thought you were done with winter. You told people you were done with winter. You emotionally moved on. And now you’re back in gloves, slightly resentful of the universe.
But here’s what I’ve realized: it’s not actually the same winter. It feels like it — but it’s not. The days are longer – sun is up earlier and sets later. The ground underneath is warmer. The storm doesn’t last as long. And you know how to handle it now. You don’t spiral. You don’t sell your house and move to Costa Rica (well… not seriously). You shovel. You layer up. You wait. Because you’ve seen this before.
Personal growth works the same way. You are in a groove. You’re disciplined. You’re focused. You’re handling your life. And then — cold snap. Old habits whisper. A little avoidance. A little chocolate. A little “I’ll do it tomorrow.” It doesn’t mean you’re back at the beginning. It means you’re in a passing storm. And if you don’t dramatize it and if you don’t hurl insults at yourself; if you just deal with it, the sun comes back faster than it used to.
Eventually, spring does arrive. For real this time. And you’re not starting over — you’re starting stronger. Wiser. Closer to your best self. The storms don’t define you. They just teach you how to dig out faster. And honestly? Nothing makes you appreciate the sunshine like surviving one last crazy snowfall in March......or April........ok - late May!
That’s what Lifeswerve is, really. Not avoiding winter. Not pretending the storms won’t come. But choosing — again and again — to swerve toward your higher standard. To shovel or get a better shovel (tools 😊). To stand back up. To trust that the sun is still working behind the clouds. Because every time you dig out instead of giving up, you’re not going backward… you’re building traction for the life that’s waiting with fields of wild flowers and butterflies.
