KINDNESS is the New Power Move!
Aug 28, 2025Somewhere along the way, being “mean” became a spectator sport. Public shaming didn’t just start with Twitter or TikTok—way before the internet, folks were already throwing shade in newspapers, magazines, sporting events and gossip circles. The internet just gave everyone a big megaphone and a front row seat. But here’s the thing: if we’re seeking true transformation, freedom, and inner power, shouldn’t we also be leaders in kindness? It’s hard to feel like you’re glowing with fantastic energy while also typing a snarky Facebook comment about your colleague’s trip photos or political views, or doom-scrolling.
The truth is, being mean drains your energy faster than a teenager drains their phone. Judgment, gossip, and finger-pointing feel powerful in the moment but leave a hangover of guilt and negativity. On the flip side, being kind is like plugging yourself into an energy field—it fills you up and radiates outward. Supporting someone online (or even better, in person) can literally shift their whole day – and yours! Remember: everyone you meet is carrying something you can’t see. Everyone is a human person – including the person driving slow in the fast lane 😊
So what if instead of “should-ing” all over people (you should do this, you shouldn’t do that), we tried curiosity? Instead of judgment, we offered encouragement. Instead of tearing down, we lifted up. We don’t have to agree with everyone to treat them like they belong. Connection comes from empathy, not criticism. When we let go of judgment and lean into compassion, we find the kind of freedom and energy our mid-life transformations are craving.
So this week, let’s make a pact: be the person who leaves a trail of kind comments, supportive words, and gentle nods of encouragement. Online and in person, let’s ignite what’s possible—not by shaming, but by shining.
3 Quick Ways to Practice Kindness This Week
- Leave a digital high-five. Comment something kind on a friend’s (or stranger’s!) post instead of scrolling by.
- Practice the “pause.” Before firing off a reaction, pause and ask: “Will this add light or take it away?”
- Smile at the human person in front of you. Grocery clerks, dog walkers, the barista—your energy may be the best part of their day.
