Loving the Skin You’re In – Discover Body Love
Sep 08, 2025Somewhere around midlife, our bodies start talking back to us—loudly. Knees creak, backs protest, and suddenly you need reading glasses to see the calories on the nutrition label (sometimes blissful ignorance is a strategy).
But here’s the thing: your body isn’t your enemy – it never was. The good news is you can treat it like your partner in experience, your constant best friend that takes you into memory-making mode. It’s your best teammate—always with you, carrying your story, and begging you to stop treating it like an after thought. The real magic begins when you stop fighting your body and start building a friendship with it. Mind and body aren’t two separate things—they’re dance partners. And the music gets a lot better once you stop stepping on each other’s toes.
One way to do this? Start listening. Notice what food actually makes you feel fuelled, not just full. Pay attention to how moving—whether walking, dancing in your kitchen, or deadlifting something heavy—shifts your mood. The connection between mind and body isn’t about punishment (“I have to work off last night’s pizza”)—it’s about partnership (“Hey body, thanks for carrying me; let’s do something fun together”). When you flip the script, exercise stops being a chore and becomes a celebration. You don’t crave the pizza – you crave whole healthy foods to fuel your body and keep yourself in training.
Here’s a fun exercise for you this week: every morning, stand in front of the mirror, look yourself in the eye, and thank your body for one thing it did for you yesterday – a fun thing you did together. Maybe it got you through a hard meeting, let you dance at a wedding, or did a breathing exercise together to get you through a moment of frustration.
Gratitude builds connection, and connection builds power.
