Wake Up: You Are the Creator of Your Life
Jun 02, 2026This weekend, one of my favourite kiddos came running over and yelled, " Come see! The caterpillar is turning into a butterfly!" My first thought? "Not now, I'm making dinner." Apparently, I believed my veggie dish required more attention than a once-in-a-lifetime transformation. But I stopped what I was doing and followed him outside. There it was—a butterfly emerging from its caterpillar body (not the bio term). Slowly. Beautifully. Completely unaware that it was about to give me a much-needed reminder about life.
The truth is, I almost missed it because I was living on autopilot. Physically, I was standing in my kitchen. Mentally, I was replaying old conversations, solving future problems, and worrying about things I couldn't control. Sound familiar? So many of us spend our days living in the past or stressing about the future that we forget to experience the life happening right in front of us. We become experts at surviving our days instead of actually living them.
That butterfly reminded me of something powerful: I am the creator of my day. Not my circumstances. Not my worries. Not my to-do list. Me. So instead of spending the weekend trapped in my head, I went down the giant waterslide with the kiddos more times than I ever have – I don’t recall ever doing it actually. I made puzzles, laughed, played, and paid attention. None of my problems disappeared, but for a few glorious hours, I stopped missing my life while trying to manage it.
Here's the reality: we're all going to die. Gloomy, I know. But that truth has become one of my greatest motivators. We don't get unlimited weekends, summers, or butterfly moments. Life is happening now. Not when you lose the weight, start the business, fix the relationship, or solve the problem. Right now. The question isn't "What will happen next?" The question is "How do I want to spend the day I've been given?"
This week, challenge yourself to wake up. Notice one beautiful thing. Create one memorable moment. Ask yourself what you can control today instead of worrying about tomorrow. Because every day you intentionally create becomes part of the life you're creating. That's exactly what we're building inside our 21 Days to Unshakeable journey—more self-trust, more presence, and more courage to stop living on autopilot. After all, if a butterfly can focus on becoming what it was meant to become, maybe we can too.
